Embedding images located on outside web sites is not always a good idea. There are many potential problems:

Images on outside web sites may be very, very large. The forum software cannot manipulate images which exist on other web sites, so thumbnails will not be generated for them. Embedding a very large off-site photo will throw off an entire topic, forcing everything off the right side of the screen. Readers must scroll horizontally in order to read each line of each message in the thread, not to mention being unable to view the entire image.

Here's an example which shows how an entire page of posts within a topic can be messed up by a single large embedded photo.

PREVIEW YOUR POST or at least look at it to make sure there aren't problems.

Embedding images from outside web sites is completely dependent on those outside sites. Any number of things can go wrong. The forum has no control over other web sites, connections to them, links used, etc. All these and more can cause problems.

There may be difficulty connecting to an outside web site. This will stall the process of viewing your message and the image will not appear until the connection has been successfully made, if it is. It can also stall the loading of the entire thread for everyone viewing it.

IMPORTANT: If you do embed any photos in a post using the IMG tags, the link MUST be in the form of an image file. It should end with ".jpg", ".gif" or ".png" in order for the forum software to recognize it as an image and display it. Some links to images contain code which generates the image on the fly on that web site only, or may end with some other code for some other reason. Those kind of links will not work as embedded images here. Post those as links instead.

It's much better to upload images as attachments to the message you post here. That way, you can be assured it will work and will remain working indefinitely, and that the size of the image will not ruin a topic. It also works much better for the mailing list users as links to attached images are sent out over the mailing list automatically, while links to off-site images are not. Another advantage is that you can add comments to each photo if you wish. It's just better in every way.

If you MUST embed an image located on an outside web site, please preview your post before submitting it. That way, you can make sure it actually works and is of a usable size rather than posting a message with broken links or making the topic unusable.

To Save Images from Other Web Sites for Uploading to this Forum:
Go to the web site which contains the photo(s) you want to include in your post and right-click (control-click on a Mac) on the photo. Select "Save Image As" and save it to a location on your computer where you can find it. Do the same for each photo if there's more than one. Then, post your message on this forum and add any saved photo(s) as attachments. Instructions for adding attachments can be found HERE or in the FAQ.

If the photos are yours and you've uploaded them to a photo-hosting service such as Photobucket, you may already have them stored on your computer. Please upload them to the forum as attachments instead of embedding them as links to that outside source. If you can upload them to a photo-hosting service, you can upload them to the forum. It takes fewer steps to upload images as attachments than uploading them to another site, then coming back here to embed them in a message.
