chrisbenson brought this up in another posting quote below - with this being said I have always wondered why pictures of trucks are taken and posted on this forum without the plates grayed out - someone could easily run the plate, get that persons address and who knows their intension

"rather the character of the people that are potentially outside the circle of trust that is the HML that would be invited to the event"

I used to block out plates, I stopped it pretty quickly. It's a lot of worry for the very remote chance of someone using plates to look up someone. There's millions of plates online on photos, including those of vehicles of much higher value than a old hummer.

Hypothetically, someone could go to the cars and coffee events in Orange County, CA and snap plates of all the Ferraris and stuff and go on a crime spree but that hasn't happened.

Plates are already publicly displayed if you drive your vehicle. If they're out to get you... I'm sure that they've already seen your vehicle in person anyway.

Agreed. The most common reasons to obscure plates are usually not theft-related and boil down to the following:

1) You're driving off-road and your insurance policy doesn't permit offroad use. Fix: don't submit non-covered claims.

2) You're wheeling somewhere you shouldn't be. Easy fix: don't wheel illegally.

3) You're hooning it up on public roads and don't want it getting back to law enforcement. See fix for #2.

I guess my ego isn't big enough to think anybody wants to mess with me. I don't get it...if you gave my name and address or even my phone number what are you gonna do?. You still have to get the gig or into my house...I protect myself and property...you still have to get past that. Like what....I'd you find over I am just gonna give you everything cause you know who. U am?

Paranoia ain't a good thing

This thread has nothing to do with license plates.

The license plates on my Hummers are:

UBON and
1723

And there is no reason to keep them a secret.

The reason why some people do block out plate numbers is when they are posting pictures of other people's vehicles and they (the poster) is worried at some (likely non-existent) privacy issues...
